On behalf of our faculty, staff and students, I would like to welcome you to the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) in the College of Science and Technology at Temple University .

Our department is at the forefront of the rapidly evolving fields of computer science and informatics, which are driving innovation and shaping the future of our society. As technology continues to transform industries and daily life, the role of computer science in addressing global challenges has never been more critical.

At CIS, we are committed to preparing our students to lead in this dynamic landscape. Our faculty and over 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students are engaged in pioneering research and education that pushes the boundaries of knowledge in areas like artificial intelligence, data science, distributed computing, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, and computer and networking systems. We are particularly excited about our expanding initiatives in AI and machine learning, where our research contributes to advancements in large language model, data mining, hybrid intelligence, autonomous systems, smart sensing, privacy and ethical AI.

Our educational mission is enriched by innovative programs that blend computational theory with practical application. The BS in Data Science and MS in Computational Data Science, for example, offer a robust foundation in the critical skills needed to extract insights from vast amounts of data and provide advanced training in machine learning, big data analytics, and algorithmic thinking. Additionally, our interdisciplinary programs, such as BS in Computer Science and Physics and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, equip students with the knowledge to bridge the gap between computing and other science fields, positioning them to tackle complex, multidisciplinary challenges.
