Fundamentals of Programming

This certificate is designed for students who want to gain knowledge and practical experience in computer programming and database management. Specifically, you'll learn how to solve problems using algorithm-based and logical approaches, how to implement solutions in a programming language and how to write code that is testable and maintainable. You'll also gain practical experience using two popular programming languages and database management systems that are frequently used in scientific research and web applications. No prior programming experience is required.

As threats to security increase, so does the need for professionals with backgrounds in computer and information security. Students in this 10-credit- hour certificate program form a deeper knowledge of computer systems and digital forensics, with a focus on network and information system security, cybercrime and criminal justice and digital forensics and information-driven investigation techniques. This certificate is designed to expand upon an existing foundation of knowledge in networking and requires some programming experience.
