The goal of this course is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills for the emerging and expanding market, to explore opportunities with new research problems.
This course assumes a basic familiarity with networking concepts. The course will consist of a reading/lecture/discussion component and an optional project component. The class will cover approximately 50 research papers on various aspects of SDN. These papers will introduce students to the basic computing principles on which SDN are based. In addition, these papers will cover recent proposals to change the way communications networks are managed, maintained, and secured. You will hear real-world stories from giants like Google and rising stars like VMware. You will also investigate the wonderful engines that are driving SDN: computing principles and disciplines borrowed from operating system, programming language, distributed system, and, database research.

A grade of C- or better in CIS 2168 and either CIS 2107 or CIS 2229. These may not be taken concurrently.
Attendance is required.

Leaving the course
The last day to drop the course is September 8. The last day to withdraw is December 7. These are strict deadlines. Incompletes will only be given in the rarest of circumstances.
