Kevin Noonan 10/28/04 AI Topic Selection Topic: Addressing The Current Theories Of AI Gaming Basic Idea’s to be discussed by project: My topic of AI gaming theories will entail two (2) parts, part one a paper and part two a simple program or two that displays AI gaming theories. My paper will have at least two separate parts. The first part will discuss the different types of searches and such used currently for AI gaming. In discussing these AI gaming theories, I hope to bring forth my own personal opinions on how each of these topic functions in the AI gaming world. Also, I plan to formulate opinions on which theory works the best for AI gaming and which theories fail to meet the highest levels of expectations (given my beliefs based on research and opinions). The second part of the research paper will deal with the discussion of whether or not the current AI gaming theories or search based gaming is truly AI gaming. This is a question that has always intrigued me. Either side in a discussion like this can be taken and argued to the full extent of the knowledge that one person knows. The final part of the project that I will be turning in is one or two simple AI games. These games will most likely be tic-tac-toe and deal with one or two different types of AI gaming and mainly be used to accentuate the two topics that will be discussed in the paper. Addressing the three bullet points: 1.) The Importance of this topic: I feel that this topic is very important because most of the projects/programs that AI is (are) known for is in gaming. This topic presents interesting theoretical possibilities. Among them is the opportunity to analyze the several different AI gaming searches and techniques and formulate new and/or pre-determined opinions about AI and the gaming industry. I also feel that this give a very useful training opportunity. Training can be done by researching different AI gaming techniques and seeing how certain techniques display efficiency and/or deficiency when run/programmed. 2.) I feel that given what I have learned in class and through other mediums thus far I will be able to formulate interesting and creative theories and be able to discuss current theories strengths and weaknesses in great detail. I believe that given all the information available in all the books and throughout the internet, I will be able to finish all of the plans that I have for this project in the allotted amount of time. 3.) Thus far, a lot has been done on this topic (both in CIS 203 and outside of the school). There is a large amount of information about AI gaming including theories and programs. Given my current knowledge of AI gaming, I feel that I can add very little when it comes to “Ground-Breaking” AI gaming topics. However, I feel that I can bring my opinionated ideas about different AI gaming topics and share how I feel current/existing theories fair in the current AI gaming world.
