Course Objective
This course is designed to be the first programming course for CS/IST Majors, though it is also open to other students. This course covers the basic notions of computer programming in general, and Java programming in particular. The conceptual introductions are accompanied by hand-on programming exercises.

Grading
- Exams: 60% (two mid-terms 15% and 20%, final 25%, close book but allow one page of note)
- Quizzes: 10% (in class, no makeup, close book)
- Assignments: 30% (assigned weekly, managed by the TA)
- Additional reward/punishment: up to +/- 5%, based on participation
To pass the course, you need more than 60% of the grades both in the "exams plus quizzes" part and the "assignments" part.
Policies and Rules
- Attendance to all lectures, labs, and examinations is required. Late
arrival or early leaving are not allowed except in special situations.
- No eating, talking, sleeping during the lectures.
- Usage of notebook computer during lecture is allowed, but restricted to relevant activities.
- No usage of cell phones during the lectures.
- For the last days to drop or withdraw, check the Academic
Calendar.
- Students with special needs: Any student who has a need for accommodation
based on the impact of a disability should contact me privately to discuss
the specific situation as soon as possible.
