The Baobab Tree
The baobab is one of the most distinctive trees of Savanna. It has several
descriptive common names such as the "Upside Down Tree" and the "Monkey
Bread Tree".
The baobab grows up to 25m high, and has an enormous trunk (sometimes 18m
across). In summer, it has green, whorled leaves, attractive white and
purple waxy flowers and large pods, which are used for food. The
bark is used for making cloth and paper.
