\subsection{Standalone}\label{standalone}

After performing the configure and build procedure in
Section~\ref{config}, the build directory contains two {\xk} files:
{\var scout} and {\var scout.boot}.  File {\var scout} is an
OSF/1 binary, and {\var scout.boot} is a bootable file. In general,
rebooting a machine with a new image requires superuser assistance, so
contact your installation administrator to boot from {\var
scout.boot}.

The standalone {\xk} boot procedure at the University of Arizona Computer
Science department is as follows: copy {\var scout.boot} to
{\var /net/cag/usr1/local/boot/<YOURNAME>} (or create a symlink), shut down
the target system, and, at the boot prompt, type:
\begin{verbatim}

     boot ez -fi yourname

\end{verbatim}
Note that, unless you put {\var yourname} in double quotes, the
bootstrap loader will convert the file name into all uppercase.
