Secure Data Analytics in Cloud-Based Smart Systems

Cloud computing has been widely used as the back-end data analytics platform for various smart systems and Internet of Things (IoT). However, the centralized cloud also attracts malicious attacks which have caused massive data breaches as reported in past few years. An ideal solution to this issue is to encrypt all the valuable data no matter in transit or at rest in cloud-based systems. However, significant challenges exist because of the difficulties of data access control and analytics in large-scale scenarios. This talk overviews outstanding problems with the ecosystem of secure data analytics in cloud-based smart systems. A spectrum of techniques will then be considered for secure data acquisition, transmission, storage, sharing and analysis. Novel design and engineering of security algorithms, including encrypted-based access control, searchable encryption and privacy-preserving deep learning, will be introduced. The talk considers various data formats including texts and images. Application of these techniques in securing smart systems will also be discussed.
